Even when the side effects occur, these should be very mild when you follow the prescribed dosage of the generic Valtrex. Don’t use an overdose or you’re bound to have more side effects after using the drug. Definitely don’t use Valtrex, generic Valtrex or any other Valacyclovir drug when pregnant. Pregnant women who do use generic Valtrex risk passing herpes to the unborn baby. It’s better not to take the medicine right after having drunk alcohol, the possible consequences are unkown.

How should generic Valtrex be taken?

Generic Valtrex is usually sold per 30, 60 or 90 tablets. For recurring episodes, you should be taking 500 mg dosage of this Valacyclovir drug twice daily for about five days. When in an initial occurrence of herpes, you should be taking 1 gm twice daily for ten days. When treating herpes zoster (shingles), you can take 1 gm three times a day for a period of seven days. To get maximum results, you should start taking Valtrex generic with twelve hours of the reccurrence of the first symptoms. You can take your Valtrex dosage with or without food, you’re free to choose when. Be sure to swallow the pill with enough water.
